Nochebuenas are my favorite part of the holiday season. This is what you call poinsettias in English. The Spanish word for poinsettias, Nochebuena, means literally 'good night'.

This plant is natively Mexican and it's a big big part of the holiday decoration here. I don't have much more to say, so I went to our trusty wikipedia and compilled some cool facts about this Mexican plant:
  • The name "poinsettia" is after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Ambassador to Mexico, who introduced the plant into the US in 1828.
  • In Nahuatl, the language of the Aztecs, the plant is called Cuitlaxochitl meaning "star flower." The Aztecs used the plant to produce red dye and as fever medication.
  • The plants' association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan monks in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations.

Oh, and apparently there is a cocktail called poinsettia, which is a mixture of dry sparkling white wine, vodka, and cranberry juice. Yum!!!!

'Day of the Dead' Treasure Hunt

We, the Mexico Team, are so glad to present our first event ever...
The Day of the Dead Treasure Hunt
This event is for celebrating a very traditional Mexican holiday and for sharing it with all the etsians out there.

So, what's the deal with the treasure hunt???

Well, basically all the team participants will hide the following image in one of their listings ...

Your mission if you wish to accept it is to find it on each of these stores:
Cara Carmina
Colibri Dreams
Justine Justine

The image will be up on Saturday, November 1st. . To win, you have to submit either the listing IDs of the items or the item links where you found the picture. You should convo this information to mexicoteam on etsy. You have until November 2nd.

The winner is the person who finds all of the images in the stores. If more than one person finds the images, we will make a draw to determine the winner!!

And what's in it for you???
Well, each team member will mark one of her listings as "Reserved for the winner of the Day of the Dead Treasure Hunt". When the winner is announced, he/she can pick any of those listings by any team member, but just one. The winner will shop for the item on etsy, but not pay since the prize will be delivered to your home all free of charge.

So, let's go back...
1. Go to all the teams stores and find the listing with the image
2. Submit all the information to mexicoteam
3. Wait for us to inform the winner
4. Shop for your prize if you win!!!
